Celebrating the life of
Eva Mae Kemp Reeves
October 08, 1928 - August 26, 2013
Eva Mae Kemp Reeves, 84, died Monday, August 26, 2013 surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph's Hospital following a short illness. She was the eighth of nine siblings and was the last surviving sibling. Her deceased parents were Lester W. and Eva Mae Scott Kemp.
Eva Mae was born in Sylvania Screven County Georgia but lived all of her adult life in Savannah. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, George A. Reeves, Jr., the love of her life.
Eva Mae chose to live a simple, yet unique, life style. She elected to work behind the scenes and delivered many special services unknown to others. She was deeply committed, devoted, loving and caring to her entire family and friends. She had a tremendous burdened heart for those hurting and in need. She especially enjoyed preparing special food dishes for her family and friends. She also enjoyed her collection of cookbooks and attending her flower garden. Some of her favorite sayings were, "Oh The Wonder Of It All" and "It's Gonna Be Alright". Mae lived her life in a deep and abiding faith in the Lord and, according to her own statements, a most blessed privileged and rewarding life. She served for twenty-three years as volunteer Church Secretary for the former Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church. She also served in many capacities: President of the Women in the Church, Sunday school teacher, Youth Group Leader and on various committees.
Following her church tenure, she joined the staff of Georgia Regional Hospital as Administrative Assistant to the Clinical Director. During her tenure there, she formed the first Secretarial Council which continues to function. She retired in October, 1994 to return home to care for her ill husband. Among the staff in her work places, Eva Mae was known for her strong belief in "team effort" in order to deliver good and caring services to those in need.
Eva Mae is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea and Larry McCoy of Murrells Inlet, SC and Carolyn and Rick Whitson of Savannah, GA; three grandchildren, Cassie Henry Challe; Mandy Jason Burzler of Surfside Beach, SC; and Rick Whitson, Jr. of Savannah, GA; six great grandchildren, Savannah, Tybee, Carson Challe; Max, Jake, Grace Eva Burzler all of SC; two brothers-in-law, Steve and Charles Reeves and their spouses, Carlene and Gwen Reeves. She is also survived by a number of "special" nieces and nephews and their families.

Dear Andrea and Carolyn, I grew up with you both on 37th street in the sixtys. We spent a lot of time climbing the big tree in front of your mom's house. Mae would come get us down so we would not fall. I had the pleasure of meeting up with her again at Ga.Regional where we worked together for many years. We had a lot of laughs about the tree climbing episodes.Mae was one of the kindest and most decent people I have ever known. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time. She will be greatly missed. Love Carolyn Emerick

I had the pleasure of knowing Mae through her work at Georgia Regional as through Rick and Carol. She was dedicated to her family as well as her work. Mae was one of those that you could really count on. My prayers go out to Rick, Carol and Ricky.

I had known Mae at Ga Regional Hospital since 1981. She was a very professional lady. Lots of fun to work with. I know that she will be really missed by the family and friends. Just know that you will see her another day. All of us that knew her highly respected her. Prayers to all of the family.

Mae was one of the nicest, most helpful and sincere people I have ever met. Working with her was always a pleasure. I am sorry that I won't be able to attend the funeral.

I am deeply saddened at the loss of my Aunt Mae. She was very special to me and helped me so much after the loss of my mother, her sister, Runelle. I always enjoyed long conversations with her and especially hearing her sweet southern draw that reminded me of my mom. I hadn't seen her in years but always held her close in my heart. I will miss you Aunt Mae. Now you're with Jesus and your loved ones.

Carolyn and Ricky as I remember you being called - I am sorry to hear of your loss. I can still remember how we used to sit up on the hill at your Mom and Dad's house making acorn necklaces. I am sure you have many special memories of your Mom but that is one I remember. You are all in my thoughts and prayers for strength through this difficult time.
